It’s not a controversial observation to note that Salon has made a living clubbing other websites with its mighty SJW-club of politically correct nomenclature.
So, when the Salon twitter team lets slip one of those phrases that are commonly decried as “racist dogwhistles,” it was a little too satisfying for some on Twitter to watch the website’s carefully controlled narrative implode:
“The look on Miley’s face during Nicki Minaj’s savage, expletive-laden rant says it all,” the tweet reads.
The Blaze’s Jason Howerton noted that:
Twitter users quickly criticized Salon for using the word “savage” to describe Minaj — even though the story in question portrayed the rapper in a positive light.
And here’s the blowback:
YO @Salon there's a long tradition of white people calling us caribs "savage". wanna go there? @capetownbrown pic.twitter.com/TQAm6nGzDs

Of course, there was an apology from Salon:
Earlier today we used a poor choice of words in describing Nicki Minaj's VMA acceptance speech. We apologize to Ms. Minaj and our readers

But not everyone was satisfied:
This is not an apology, @Salon. pic.twitter.com/cKS3Q7MKTf

The social justice warriors were out with more reprisals for the temporary slip-up:
.@Salon, her Twitter handle is @NICKIMINAJ. https://t.co/yI0mjn64WK

It just goes to show, when it comes to political correctness: Live by the sword, die by the sword.
