Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, one of the self-described masterminds of the 9-11 terror attacks who is currently in custody in Guantanamo, has penned a letter to President Obama. The existence of the letter was disclosed by his attorney, David Nevin, in a news conference.

The letter itself has not been released nor sent to the President, but Nevin summarized it, saying:

Mr. Mohammed is advising the President that there is a long history of Muslim oppression at the hands of the West in general, the United States in particular. Hundreds of thousands of people were killed in Iraq as a result of the Iraq sanctions.

Reportedly, it also has quotes from both the Bible and Richard Nixon, as well as excerpts from the Koran. Mohammed also gives his opinions on various other issues: the U.S military suicide rate- which he says stems from guilt over conspicuous consumption in regions like Afghanistan- as well as same-sex marriage, which he opposes.

At issue is whether the letter can actually be sent from a not-yet-convicted prisoner, via attorney, directly to the President. At this point the military has kept the letter and has not indicated if it will ever make it to its intended recipient.

On the other hand, given the questionable choices the President has been making these days – like skipping attending Harold Greene’s funeral in lieu of a round of golf – it seems like he’s not too picky about where his advice comes from…
