With all the sports media’s reporting on misconduct in the National Football League, it often gets missed that many NFL players have a deep abiding faith in Christ that guides them. Players and staff from one NFL Team, the NFC Championship bound Seattle Seahawks, may have their mind on the big game, but their hearts are with Jesus.
“Jesus is better than anything we could ever hope for, even better than the Super Bowl, better than an NFL career,” said pass defense coach Rocky Leto to interviewer Pastor Mark Driscoll of the Mars Hill Church.
Pastor Driscoll followed up just to make sure, “Is an NFL coach supposed to say that, that anything’s bigger than the Super Bowl?”
“Jesus, yeah,” he repeated himself. Seahawks Quarterback Russell Wilson, Safety Chris Maragos, Offensive Tackle Russell Okung, and Long Snapper Clint Gresham nodded in agreement with him.
“I think some us here – all of us here would like to say – you know, who knows what’s going to happen,” Leto said. “But if we were ever to win the Super Bowl, to be able to tell everyone that, ‘No, Jesus is still better.’”
“Jesus is love,” says quarterback Russell Wilson in the interview. “At the end of the day we are all looking for somebody to comfort us, somebody to be there for us at all times.”
