One could never imagine any organization defending a child molester, right?  But a Michigan teachers union is fighting for disgraced teacher Neal Erickson’s severance package after he was convicted of having sexual relations with a 14-year old boy.

The Daily Caller reported on December 13 that:

The disgraced teacher, Neal Erickson, had been a math and computer-education teacher at Rose City Middle School before he was convicted of having sex with the victim on multiple occasions. The sexual encounters began when the unidentified student was an eighth-grade student.

The boy’s father, John Janczewski, called the Michigan Education Association’s efforts to collect $10,000 for the convicted pedophile “ludicrous,” according to Janczewski notes that any money disbursed ought to go to his son, who is “out there trying to make it in this world all messed up.”

Erickson’s behavior was investigated after an anonymous source sent a seven-year old photo of the then-14-year old boy to the school board. The student featured has now graduated from Western Michigan University, but admits that the relationship he had with Erickson was of a sexual nature. Nevertheless, why does Erickson need the $10,000?  Isn’t he going to jail? He sure is!

According to EAGnews, the sexual relationship lasted a few years.

Erickson pleaded guilty to a single count of criminal sexual conduct. He was sentenced in July to 15 to 30 years in prison.

However, at least he has his union on his side. Child molestation or no child molestation; the union leaders are sticking with their comrade.  It’s a very noble thing – said by no one ever.
