Here We Go Again: 7th Grader Suspended Over Toy Gun Key Chain Size Of Quarter
Insanity has claimed another “gun crime” victim. This time, a 12-year-old boy was suspended after a toy gun key chain slightly larger than a quarter fell out his backpack at a Rhode Island middle school.
The seventh grade Shawn Feinstein Middle School student, Joseph Lyssikatos, said the small toy he won at an arcade fell out of his backpack Thursday before a classmate picked it up and starting showing others, according to WCAU-TV.
Apparently fearing that the roughly quarter-sized hunk of cheap metal was somehow a danger to life and limb, school officials sprang into action. They suspended Lyssikatos for three days. He has also been banned from an upcoming class field trip, according to The Daily Caller.
School officials have clammed up concerning the incident, according to WJAR. The school released a brief statement saying:
“Because this is a student discipline issue, we cannot comment on any specifics.”
Translation: “Because we look just as idiotic as the school in Baltimore that suspended an eight-year-old boy for biting his Pop-Tart in into the shape of a “gun,” we really think we should keep on ridiculously overreacting mouths shut.”
Yes, you do – and yes, you should.
