Remembering Rhoda: Valerie Harper's Fight With Terminal Cancer

Kira Davis

Television star Valerie Harper has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. The actress, 73, starred on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and went on to star in her own spin-off “Rhoda.”

According to an interview Harper did with People magazine she’s been diagnosed with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, a condition that occurs when cancer cells spread into the fluid-filled membrane surrounding the brain. She received the crushing news back in January and has been told by her physicians she may have as little as three months to live.

Says Valerie Harper to People magazine: “I don’t think of dying. I think of being here now.”

Harper also beat lung cancer in 2009. We here at IJReview wish Ms. Harper peace and Godspeed as she copes with her diagnosis.
