Newly re-elected president Barack Obama is about to unleash a sweeping set of executive orders — on immigration, the environmentalist agenda, sexual preferences, and computer security. The battery of new legislation from the executive branch, which is unconstitutional, follows upon his 23 ‘executive actions’ on gun violence. WaPo reports:
President Obama is considering a series of new executive actions aimed at working around a recalcitrant Congress, including policies that could allow struggling homeowners to refinance their mortgages, provide new protections for gays and lesbians, make buildings more energy-efficient and toughen regulations for coal-fired power plants, according to people outside the White House involved in discussions on the issues.
WaPo concedes the presidential powergrabs, which are exactly what activist media want:
The moves underscore Obama’s increasingly aggressive use of executive authority, including 23 administrative actions on gun violence last month and previous orders that delayed deportations of young illegal immigrants and will lower student loan payments.
These and other potential actions suggest that Obama is likely to rely heavily on executive powers to set domestic policy in his second term.
The GOP is readying its rapid response team, and it better get serious in a hurry. This isn’t a time for Congressional hearings and exchanging pleasantries.
This is a president whose advisers revealed his second-term agenda is to crush the GOP. A man who is reported by Democratic Representative Maxine Waters to have a secret database that the 2016 candidate will use to achieve that very task. If the Republican party wants to continue to play bipartisan pattycake with a lawless party, it is going to have its hands full.
Senator Chuck Grassley, who is not known for hard right leanings, has signaled the GOP is aware of the impending problem and is preparing to fight:
“It is a very dangerous road he’s going down contrary to the spirit of the Constitution,” Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) said in a recent interview. “Just because Congress doesn’t act doesn’t mean the president has a right to act.”
A very sensible point, Senator Grassley, but we’re not talking about sensible people. The Republican Party must recognize that no less than the fate of the American Constitutional republic is at stake. That may not seem like much of a threat inside the Beltway bubble, but the constitutional dam has sprung a leak; and there is no logical limit to how far the social democrats in the Democrat Party want to push the country.
Either stand up for liberty and limited government or prepare to lose the country to petty tyrants, whose goal is no less than to micro-manage every aspect of people’s lives. And that, contrary to the fever dreams of power-hungry politicians, would be an utter disaster for the fate of America.
This nation has become the most prosperous and powerful country in the world by doing the exact opposite of central planning; and changing the moral compass of the nation does not entail changing the fundamental base that has allowed the great majority of Americans to prosper or the governmental system that has kept political conflict in check.
Let’s face it — the mainstream political right and left no longer share the same set of values that they did in former eras. This is not your father’s Democrat Party; and it’s time the GOP start treating it as the existential threat to freedom it is.
