Harry Reid: We Must Be "Cool and Cautious" About Gun Control

The big part of this video is when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says he will be looking to pass legislation in the Senate that can also pass the house, and that probably doesn’t include an assault weapons ban.
“We have too much violence in our society, and it’s not just from guns. It’s from a lot of stuff. and i think we should take a look at TV, movies, video games and weapons. And I hope that everyone will just be careful and cautious.”
The latest study from Pew shows that 85% of Americans favor background checks for private and gun show sales, and 80% favor preventing people with mental illness from purchasing guns. These are fair ideas – keep guns out of the hands of those that don’t need them or can’t responsibly handle them. Going down the list, only 55% of Americans favor a ban on assault style weapons, while 40% oppose it.
Biden’s task force is giving their recommendation to President Obama today, so we should know a little more about what to expect in the coming hours. However, it’s becoming clearer that an assault weapons ban is looking unlikely outside of Obama issuing an executive order. It appears to be impossible to push something like that through the Republican controlled House, so if Biden’s crew recommends an assault weapons ban, you can likely expect some executive action.
