Peter Schiff: American Taxpayers Pay More Than Feudal Serfs

Austrian School economist and former Connecticut Senate candidate Peter Schiff gives an outstanding overview of why the fiscal cliff deal was an utter farce. In the course of making many terrific points, Schiff brings up an astounding statistic: most feudal serfs were only expected to pay 25% of their production in taxes. Americans aren’t on The Road to Serfdom, they arrived there a long time ago.

When reading the “long train of abuses” listed in The Declaration of Independence, one marvels at how relatively benign King George III was when compared to the president Barack Obama and the courtesans of Congress. The Intolerable Acts would appear completely tolerable in the eyes of typical American citizens, who increasingly resemble the subjects of Washington politicians.

Ironically, most people aren’t even aware that some of the first calls for gun control in this country came from Southern slave-owners who wanted to keep their human chattel in shackles, not to mention that Americans themselves threw off British gun control. It is fairly simple why Democrat politicians defy all facts and evidence when calling for gun control — their aim is not safety, but the absolute domination of all citizens.

So, when “progressives” talk about moving forward, they are actually talking about moving America back to a Europeanized, pre-revolutionary state of affairs. Our Founding Fathers were so despotic, to rebut a half-baked scholar, they enshrined into law the means for Americans to speak out and defend themselves against authoritarian government. Now that’s radical, not this pretend hipster rebellion nonsense about fair trade coffee and sticking up rich people to pay for ever-more government goodies.
