23 states now petitioning the White House to secede

In the wake of the last election, to say about half the nation isn’t thrilled about the current leadership is somewhat of an understatement. However, there are certain folks who are even so discontent with the way the nation is going that they are now petitioning the White House to break away from the ‘United’ part of ‘States of America’. This is happening in 23 states …just 2 short of half of the total state-count of the US. The Washington Times reports:
In the wake of the Nov. 6 election, petitions seeking to secede from the union have been filed on behalf of 23 states on the White House website, https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petitions. Most of the petitions contain the same wording and ask to withdraw “peacefully” from the United States in order to form independent governments.
Essentially, the mechanism used for the petitioning is one that the Obama White House had established. The White House considers all petitions, as long as they make 25,000 signatures within 30 days of the petition’s opening.
However, especially in Texas, the signatures stacked higher than most anticipated. The Austin American-Statesman writes:
Petitions that receive 25,000 signatures within a month are forwarded to administration policy experts for an official response. The Texas petition, created Friday on the White House’s “We the People” site by an Arlington user identified only as “Micah H,” passed that threshold Monday and kept going, surging past 83,000 by Tuesday evening.
The fringe will always have a reaction from another fringe, as there is now a petition in circulation, asking for the White House to strip the citizenry of those thousands of Americans who signed the secession petitions. The Daily Caller writes:
Two such petitions launched Nov. 12 in the White House’s “We the People” section.
“Mr. President,” reads one, “please sign an executive order such that each American citizen who signed a petition from any state to secede from the USA shall have their citizenship stripped and be peacefully deported.”
At the end of the day, this is probably not going to result in anything more than being entertainment for news watchers. However, the fact that the Texas petition skyrocketed upwards to 83,000 within hours should say something.
Barack Obama has the most to learn from these petitions …not that he should be worried about states actually seceding while he’s in office, but it should clue him in to just how much anger and hopelessness there is among the American people, directed at the federal government and especially the White House.
Mr. self-proclaimed, non-divisive President has people signing petitions to leave the union. If there was ever a mandate, it’s to pull the country together, because he certainly has not done that during the last four years.
